The Pistolwhippers skated their final game as 2009 Detroit Derby Girls Champions, but it’s doubtful they enjoyed the game as they were bested by the Detroit Pistoffs by a 131-63 score. The Pistoffs held a 26-12 margin in lead jammers and took advantage of that and of their ability to stay out of the penalty box. The Pistoffs only sent 10 skaters to the penalty box in the game (only three in the 1st half) versus 19 penalty minutes for the game for the Pistolwhippers. This game was the “Grudge Match” to settle 3rd and 4th place for the 2010 DDG season. Each of these teams has won two DDG Championships, but this year neither team qualified for the league championship game. The Pistolwhippers were 4-0 in 2009; in 2010 they dropped to 0-4.
The Whippers drew first blood with a 4-0 jam to start the game by their long time mainstay jammer Honey Suckit, but then the Pistoffs came right back with a 4-0 jam by the Pistoffs Cookie Rumble. Midway through the 1st half the Pistoffs had a 31-7 lead; they led 62-21 at the half. The Pistoffs blanked the Whippers in 14 of the half’s 20 jams. The only scoring highlight of the 1st half for the Whippers was a 10-0 win in jam 17 by Sarah Hipel. The Pistoffs had an 11-0 jam 14 win by Cookie Rumble, and an 8-0 win in jam 16 by Vega Vendetta.
The 2nd half was more of the same with the Pistoffs outscoring the Whippers 29-7 through the first half of the last half to lead 91-28. The Whippers finally scored 25 of their points in the game’s final 4 jams to make the score somewhat more respectful, not to mention avoiding setting a low-scoring record for the DDG. The Pistoffs were able to shut out the Whippers in 11 of the final half’s 20 jams.
Pistoff Effin Money was MVP and Jammer of the Game. She scored 38 points to lead all jammers, and led all jammers with a plus 27 plus/minus rating. Her teammates Elle McFearsome and Cookie Rumble were named Offensive and Defensive Blockers of the Game, respectively. Elle had 21 assists and 63 total actions in the game, while Cookie had 39 attacks (aka “blocks”) and 55 total actions. The Whippers were led offensively by Sarah Hipel with 35 points, and defensively by Del Bomber (44 actions) and Elle Iminator (39 actions).
